Meet the IT Staff
The combined brain power of these gentlemen could jump start the space shuttle. Yea computers are simple enough. But when you add in all the other systems & include the maintainence that these guys do. You got a Super Mega cerebellum.

Some of you may wonder, just what the heck does the IT department do? Well this three-man team takes care of the city’s entire communications & computer systems.

If a city computer breaks down across town, have no fear. This department will correct the problem. Maybe your copier just isn’t right then who will you call to fix it? The IT department is ready to tackle the task. What if your pager goes wacko and you need it working before your shift ends. No problem Call the IT department. You think maybe your telephone is dialing the wrong numbers or wont change lines. Yep that’s right call IT.

When you think of the vast area of communication and technology needed to run this city. It’s almost incomprehensible that three men maintain this entire city.

This city has about 180 Desk Top PC’s also about 20 servers and about 250 users in maybe 10 different buildings. Throw in another 15 laptops on occasion and just the computer maintenance is mind-boggling.

Absolutely none of this is out sourced. The city totally maintains this equipment itself.

Pretty impressive huh? Well just take a look at the technology they employ to help then in their task. That would be three men and a network monitoring system.

The genius to all this is really simplicity, preventative maintenance. The network monitoring system watches the entire computer network for anything it is programmed to keep an eye on (see picture). For example you wouldn’t want your hard drive to fill up and then crash because of the dreaded “insufficient disk space” error. Well just tell the monitoring system to alert you when the hard drives are 75% full. Now that’s fantastic technology to aid in a seemingly impossible job.

New Computers & Monitors awaiting to replace equipment. The IT department likes to try to replace about 1/3 of the computers very year. That way it's rotating stock every three years and are staying up to date with technology.
Pagers waiting for some to malfunction(or get dropped) and to be replaced.
