The Mayor Henderson wants to get new contracts for trash pickup and recycling. That’s good for the environment. In addition he wants to have the user rate increased.

The user rate has been for the present contract and if and when a new contract is issued by the city, users in Greenwood will be paying another increase.

You can now give up one meal a month for the new aquatic center now. But you also can give up another for the following weeks meal to have your trash picked up (according to the said rate increase). When the other projects get underway you may find yourself missing a few more meals and fasting just to live in Greenwood. That’s the scenario the leaders in Greenwood like to sell a project on. “You can pay for this by giving up one Big Mac a Month” is the phrase used to sell the new aquatic center to the public.

Anyway the so-called new contracts will be going out soon for bids and you can have your trash picked up and also recycling too.

Many may remember about 30 years ago when we Greenwood residents paid their own fees direct to southern scavenger (or whoever)(Hence Thirty years ago was BEFORE Henderson) and then when Mayor Henderson seen an opportunity (Explanation –when he took office) to make another buck with trash contracts, he stopped the residents doing so,(Paying that city rate) why? Make money for the city by controlling the cost and renegotiating the service.

(Since) The city took over the contract for trash pickup and started charging the residents more than they were paying. (Our bills were higher than we were paying Southern Scavenger) In addition the residents were getting less service. The service contracts were more restrictive (Less quantity allowed since takeover). So now the city makes a bundle on the taxes (User Fees) and pays less to the contractor, while giving the residents less and less service.

Now it’s seems it is time for the Henderson touch again (Now we are in today’s world). The new contracts will be quite restrictive for the contractors you can bet on that (a typical tactic by Henderson). With the economy tightening, the Henderson administration will not stop spending. The trash companies need the work so they will fight among each other for the “nice contracts” thus accepting a lower pay rate and the city will make more money (otherwise why even tinker with the rate?).

Watch your (Sewer user fees) tax bills …they will be increasing what ever the new rate for trash pickup will be. With a population of nearly 50,000 and at say a couple of dollars each, that’s an additional $100,000 the city makes. Of course we could only hope for just a mere couple of dollars increase. They in turn renegotiate the trash contracts rates and viola! ! ( Even at same contract rate but the user paying a higher fee…) The city has more money to spend, not save for a rainy day, but for the never ending perpetual spiral of spending the Henderson Administration does.

Then Henderson will tell the public we need to borrow money to fix your roads, put the city farther in debt, delay fixing your roads, and just blow this trash rate hike on some frivolous project along with tax dollars that should be available for road repair.  (Opps …This has bacisally already happened…just ask those who live in Whispering trails)

Greenwood User Fees (taxes) are going up

That’s a lot of “TRASH”

Correction …We want to be correct so all Red words are explanations or corrections to this original article. Also note by politically correction…. absolutely any user fee implemented by a city or state government is actually a TAX!
