The Game started like most games with a kickoff and a few plays. The interesting part was that the Woodman came to play and the Artesians seemingly came to watch.
The Artesians had no answer for The Woodman’s powerful offense and running game, nor could they figure how to contain the defense.
The first half was all Woodman and the score proved that with a 34-0 deficit for the Artesians going into the lockers for halftime.
This was a time when the “Mighty Zeus” (Coach Campbell) had every reason to be proud. The team actually played like a team and communicated well. They executed with great precision and attention to detail. Coach had little to complain about until the second half got underway.
The woodman gave up a few point to the Artesians that was a little hard to wash down with just water.
Martinsville came out in the second half and attempted to play like a different team. The problem was … while the intent was there, the talent was slightly lacking. Martinsville has had some ruff bumps’ building a productive team the past few seasons and these years is shaping up to be the same.
On the flip side … The Woodman have shown new life and the “Might Zeus” is not accepting anything less than everything the guys can give. He wants the young men to know they are capable and they must always play with respect to the opponent. Win or loose, the way you handle yourself shows what kind on man you are. The tutelage of Coach Campbell is that of a great master and this young squad realizes they have a great leader.
It just might be one of those “Magic Season’s” for the Woodman and Coach. So far the Woodman have played with a great deal of field time and a lot of good plays. This is going to be season to that you better not miss….
Woodman Gives Artesian’s a Whooliping
41-14 Domination from the Woodshed
The first quarter was a very well played game for the Woodmen and plays were being executed on cue. Fumbles were created and touchdowns were rewards for fumble recoveries. Fumbles were continued into the next quarter. Then the Warriors began to take control of the Woodmen offense and stopped every effort.
The Woodmen did not falter, nor stop the relentless effort to win. They took the Halftime deficit into the lockers and tried to regroup. The cold rainy ground and the extreme energy expelled in the first half was just a little to much and the Woodmen would not persevere in this game.
Woodmen’s entire scoring was during the first quarter. However what you may not be realized that although a final score was 34-10, the Woodmen played a very good game. The first quarter was the Woodmen’s and there was no doubt about that, just look at he score board…until the last second with the Warriors ending the quarter with a 13-10 lead.
The woodmen would fail to amass any additional points during the next three quarters, but it was not because of effort. Whiteland is a good team; maybe even a great team and they simply beat down and controlled the Woodmen.
The heart of the Woodmen was strong yet the Warriors were stronger. The Woodmen had plenty of support from their hometown and the cheerleaders and pep squad. The Woodmen side of the field at times was much louder than the Warriors side.
The cheerleaders were working in overdrive to help give support to the Woodmen, but all was for not.
The next game is @ Mooresville on the 19th 7:00 ….Will those new uniforms get more winning dirt or another loss for the Woodmen? Who knows but all Greenwoodians will be supporting the Woodmen.

The woodmen came to the Whitland Warriors home with a new game plan. They came not with foorball in mind but a bag of
trick plays. Contrary to the usual playing scope of the Woodmen, coach Campbell decided to open the game with a trick play.
The onsides kick right out of the starting gate for the woodmen, was a fiasco. The Woodmen failed to recover the kick and the Warriors
used the great field position to take one play and turn it into a touchdown.
Throughout the game the Woodmen seemed to be easy prey for the Warriors who will for the moment remain unbeaten, and in all likelyhood will finish the season the same way.
Seemingly a superior team to all who cross paths with the Warriors, they play with steady passing and a strong defense. Something
all foes playing the Warriors to this point have not be able to find a solution for.
The Woodmen are quickly loosing any
chance of a decent season. The change of tactics this game and using trick plays was out of character for the Woodmen. They executed
poorly and tackles were missed repeatedly.
